Children’s Musical Brings “Kilroy Was Here” to Harborfest
Talented young cast bring intrigue, romance, and fun to the stage
Each year the crowds at the Children’s Stage are at capacity as the talented youngsters from the Oswego area are in the spotlight in the annual musical. This year the play “Kilroy Was Here”, book by Tim Kelly, and music and lyrics by Bill Fracoeur, comes to Harborfest. The show features swing music and dance from the 40’s, and brings a blend of mystery, intrigue, romance, and fun to the stage! A huge cast of talented children from throughout the area will be featured in this year’s performances.
The production is set in a USO Club during World War II. The characters are men and women serving in the military, hostesses and entertainers in the club, federal agents and German spies. Things weren’t looking very good for the United States in the year 1942. Ships were being torpedoed and lost at sea. Kilroy and friends set out in search of the security leak- who is telling the enemy where our ships are located?
The musical is under the direction of Bobby Palange and Rocky Farden, with choreography designed by Jessica Goodnough of Creative Dance Studio in Oswego.Performances will be held under the Family Tent in West Park on Friday, July 29 at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 AM and at 2:30 PM, and on Sunday, July 31 at 11:00 AM.

Harborfest Invites Children of All Ages to Join Procession
Annual Children’s Parade to take place during festival
Oswego Harborfest is pleased to announce the 2016 Children’s Parade, sponsored by Oswego Health. The parade invites children of all ages and their families to attend the annual event, which begins July 29th at 1:30 PM in Breitbeck Park, and travels along Lake Street to West Fifth, and concludes in the Novelis Family Park at Franklin Square. There will be many pre-parade activities that morning in Breitbeck Park for everyone to enjoy.
Following the parade, parents can bring their children by the Oswego Health Activity Area, located at the end site for the parade in Novelis Family Park. There, families can enjoy a carnival-like setting with many games for children to win prizes. There will be an obstacle course, football toss, a putting green, and a game featuring a small pond with boats that correspond to prizes! The parade and activities are a great way to get out and enjoy the beautiful summer weather in Oswego, and to experience the festival while staying active!

Senior Concert brings Musical Talent to West Park
Special performances featured in early afternoon’s concert
The 29th annual Oswego Harborfest is pleased to announce the lineup for its special Senior Concert, which is scheduled to take place on July 29th from 11:45 AM to 2:45 PM under the Family Tent in West Park.
Kicking off the concert at 11:45 AM will be contemporary roots and ragtime band My Sweet Patootie. The band was founded in 2007 by Canadian Folk Music Award winners Sandra Swannell and Terry Young, and joined by Paul Clifford. The band has a growing international reputation, and brings together tight harmonies, masterful guitar, and sizzling fiddle and percussion to create an atmosphere reminiscent of folk, Americana, jazz, and vaudevillian comedy. Concert-goers are sure to enjoy what Young calls “Green Acres for the new millennium”.
At 1:15 PM, the Rhythm Airs Dance Band, an 18 piece big band, will take the stage, and escort listeners on a journey of the musical hits of swinging big bands throughout the 30s and 40s. Featured in the band are Maureen Clum on trumpet, and Scott Dennis on vocals. The band has been performing in the Syracuse area for nearly 40 years, and brings its unique sound to Harborfest.

Workshops bring Learning & Fun to 2016 Harborfest
Festival encourages participation in hands-on workshops
The 29th annual Oswego Harborfest is proud to have several workshops taking place during this year’s festival. These workshops offer a unique opportunity for festival-goers to create and learn through hands-on activities.
The Catskill Puppet Theater, founded by artists John Potocnik and Carol Mandigo, has been entertaining young and old with their magical blend of puppetry and storytelling since 1979. At this year’s Harborfest, they will be holding a special puppet building workshop in Breitbeck Park, on July 28th, from noon to 3 PM, sponsored in part by Rudy’s Lakeside, Inc. This is an incredible way for festival-goers to capture the magic of the living tradition of the old traveling puppet theater troupes, and is not to be missed!
Downbeat Percussion, the “Official Drumline for the Buffalo Bills”, is returning to Harborfest this year to showcase their talented percussionists, and their energetic performance style. Members are all active in the field of education and are dedicated to helping students become the best musicians they can be, while also providing educators with the tools and information they need to create an exceptional percussion curriculum. They will also be holding a workshop in East Park, on the Eagle Beverage Labatt Blue Light Jazz & Blues Stage, on July 29th, from noon to 1:00 PM. It’s an excellent learning experience for young musicians and their families!
Youngsters are also given the opportunity to prepare their special Oswego Harborfest T-shirts at several workshops located at various parks throughout the weekend, sponsored in part by Mireille L. Watts, CPA, PC. Workshops will be held in Breitbeck Park: July 27th from 3 to 4 PM, and July 28th from 10 to 11:30 AM. Workshops will be held in Novelis Family Park/West Park: July 29th from 2 to 5 PM, July 30th from 11 AM to 6 PM, and July 31st from 11 AM to 4 PM.
