The Oswego State women's track and field team opened the indoor season with a strong showing at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday. Oswego took eighth place out of 15 teams.
Sophomore Abigail Boyce resumed exactly where she left off at the end of her freshman year. The hurdler and jumper began the 2015 campaign for the Lakers, hitting an indoor personal best in the triple jump (10.59 m / 34'9") to take second place in the event. She would follow up less than two hours later with another career best of 9.94 seconds, capturing third in the 60-meter hurdles, before helping the 4x200 relay take third overall. Also partnering with Boyce in the relay was senior captain Marissa Pariseau, who narrowly missed the ECAC standard by just .04 in the 500, taking third with a time of 1:22.04.
In the mid distance events, fellow senior captain Sarah Popovitch placed fourth in her 1,000-meter debut, with a time of 3:11.90.
Among other notable performances for the women was freshman hurdler Hannah Szumloz, who took eighth place in her collegiate opener in the 60 hurdles.
The women return to action next Saturday when they travel to the Highlander Invitational sponsored by Houghton College.
