The Oswego State men`s and women`s track and field teams saw records fall for the fifth straight week on Friday, as the Lakers traveled to Rochester Institute of Technology to take part in the Orange and Black invitational.
Junior captain Matt Wagenhauser led the way for the men, taking second overall in the 400, shattering the school record by nearly a second, with a time of 49.53.
In the distance events, Damian Archie took third in the 5,000, while Nick Montesano had another breakout performance, placing seventh by setting a new lifetime best of 15:50.55.
The men closed out the night with another school-record setting performance in the 4x400-meter relay. Junior sprinter Brandon Comden, running the first 400 of his career, put the team in front early, before turning the baton over to Andy Baldwin and Nick Reinsdorf in the middle of the event. Wagenhauser would anchor the team, with a blistering 49 second split on the way to a first place finish.
On the women's side, junior Kristen Harrigan booked her ticket for the ECAC Championship, setting a lifetime best in the long jump, with a leap of 5.22 meters (17'2"). Junior Jess Pesti and freshman Abigail Boyce also competed well in the jumps and sprints, turning in lifetime bests in the long and triple jump, respectively.
In the distance events, Sarah Popovitch smashed her lifetime best in the mile by nine seconds to take fifth overall. Her time of 5:16.63 beat the ECAC standard by two seconds. Sophomore Karlee Duffer also ran a lifetime best in the 3,000, with a time of 11:42.
Popovitch and Katie Bott will compete for the Lakers at Cornell on Saturday while the rest of the team takes the weekend off to prepare for next weekend's SUNYAC Championships at Brockport.
