Laker Wrestling Falls Short in First Dual of 2015 Season

OS Wrestling

The Oswego State wrestling team dropped its first dual of the year 23-15 to host Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. With the meet being each squads' first of the year, the Lakers are now 0-1 while the Tigers go to 1-0.

Oswego got off to a hot start as junior Jacob Yankloski earned a 7-3 decision in the 125-pound weight class. Following a loss at 133, the Lakers picked up another victory as 141-pound Israel Segarra defeated RIT's Cole Murphy with an 8-5 decision.

The Tigers then strung together wins in three-straight bouts before the Lakers' Troy Seymour snapped the streak. Seymour grappled his way to a two-point decision, 5-3, over Joe Cutugno in the 174-pound matchup. Oswego's final win of the day came from freshman Daniel Smith, as the 197-pounder dominated his counterpart on the way to a fall at 3:36.

Oswego will return to the mats at 9 a.m. next Sunday when it heads to the 47th Annual New York State Collegiate Championships, hosted by Cornell University.
