Lakers Awarded for On/Off Field Performances

OS Baseball

The 2015 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First baseman Jordan Giller and outfielder Dan Saccocio have both been selected as First Team All-District 3 members.

Saccocio and Giller have started all 38 contests this year, both proving to be instrumental parts of the team.

Giller's batting average of .407 (55-for-135) paced the Lakers this season, as did his 12 doubles. The Toronto, Ont. native has also leads the squad in total bases with 77 and is tied for second with 37 RBI. On the defensive side of play, the junior has notched 331 putouts which leads not only the team, but also the conference.

Saccocio has also had a successful year at the plate, batting .364 (47-for-129) as the Lakers lead off man. Known for his base-running abilities, the Scotia, N.Y. native leads the team in runs scored (49) and stolen bags (23). In the field, Saccocio has nabbed 59 putouts while maintaining a .938 fielding percentage.

While their on-field performances have been great, the duos work in the classroom has been equally as impressive. A business administration major, Saccocio has earned a grade-point average of a 3.95 this year, while Giller, who majors in finance, has posted a GPA of 3.55.

First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
