The Oswego State men's track and field team closed out its indoor regular season in impressive fashion at Brockport on Saturday. On the track, the team took home two individual crowns, while the jumpers had a record-setting afternoon in the field events.
Ben Griffin took home the team's first victory of the day in the mile. The junior shaved 13 seconds off his career-best to clinch first in a time of 4:23.34. One event later, the Lakers would get their second individual win of the afternoon as senior Matt Wagenhauser cruised to victory in the 400 with a time of 50.56. In the 3,000-meter run, senior Nick Montesano recorded a lifetime best performance, taking third place with a time of 8:51.49.
For the field events, the jumps group used several tremendous individual performances to qualify for the SUNYAC Championships on the final day of competition. Senior Josh Maiolo led the way in the triple jump, setting a season-best of 13.20 (43'3.75") to take third. Senior Chris Bridgewater and sophomore Adam Crumb, also qualified for finals in the event, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively. Crumb's mark of 12.84 (42'1") was a collegiate-best performance by over two feet.
Bolstered by strong performances in the triple jump, it was the long jump that helped the Lakers close out the meet in impressive fashion. All four jumpers in the competition, sophomore Ethan Green, Maiolo, Crumb and Bridgewater all set lifetime bests on the day, marking the first time that all Oswego jumpers crossed the six-meter barrier this season. Finishing in the top nine, Crumb, Maiolo and Bridgewater all finished within two inches of each other in a back-and-forth battle that saw Bridgewater claim the school-record by merely one centimeter. His performance of 6.78 meters (22' 3") narrowly eclipses the mark set by Maiolo back in 2013.
Maiolo would not go away empty-handed. His performance of 6.70 meters (21'11/75") was both a seasonal best, and the third best jump of his career. Finishing between Maiolo and Bridgewater, Adam Crumb placed seventh in the event with a lifetime best jump of 6.74 meters (22'1.5").
The men return to action at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon as the 2015 Indoor SUNYAC Championships get underway at Brockport.
