The Oswego State wrestling team opened the 2013-14 season Friday evening, Nov. 8, at the Ithaca Invitational.
After the preliminary rounds, Oswego is seated in sixth place among eight teams, earning 32.5 points Friday.
Leading the way for the Lakers was Abubakarr Sow in the 149 weight class, scoring a decision in his first match, 13-6 over Ithaca's Travis Berube. In his next competition, Sow recorded a fall at the 5:00 mark over Ben Swanson of Norwich University to head tomorrow's semifinal.
Andrew Cole cruised as the No. 1 seed in his 197 weight class, compiling two major decisions. Cole downed Joseph Negro of Johnson & Wales 15-2 in his first match of the day before dominating John Klein of New York University 11-2.
Joe Gorsuch had a good showing at 197, upsetting Norwich Unversity's Mike Babbin, the No. 2 seed, by a 6-4 decision. Gorsuch eventually fell in the quarterfinal matchup.
In the 165 weight class, David Hall posted a 2-1 record with a fall at 1:36 in his first match before taking his second contest by major decision, 11-2. Hall fell in the quarterfinal round to Dylan Foley, the No. 4 seed from Springfield College. He will try to wrestle back to third place finish Saturday.
