Volleyball Finishes 3-1 in Tournament

    OS Volley Ball The Oswego State volleyball team won both of its games on the second day of the Oswego State Tournament on Saturday in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Oswego played a close contest in its first match, narrowly edging Hamilton College by a score of 3-2. In the nightcap, the Lakers handled their second game of the day against Potsdam with a bit more ease, cruising to a 3-0 victory.

     The team ended the tournament with a record of 3-1 and an overall mark of 6-7. After the conclusion of the tournament, Oswego's Rachel Ruggaber and Kelsey Dillon were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

FIRST MATCH

     Oswego had to battle in all five games to earn the win against Hamilton on Saturday morning (25-22, 26-28, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12).

     Leading the team offensively were Dillon and Stephanie Bailey who had 19 and 16 kills, respectively. Hannah Dahlgren and Kim Cassa pitched in as well, recording 10 kills each.

     Setting duties during the match rested on the shoulders of Olivia Zimmerman, who registered 27 assists, and Lauren Edwards, who finished with 25.

     The team played a solid defensive game as well. Zimmerman was able to dig the ball 22 times with Ruggaber at her heels with 19. Leading the way at the net was Bailey, who had four block assists.

SECOND MATCH

     The momentum of the first game rolled right into the next as the squad handily beat Potsdam in three sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-18).

     Dahlgren dominated the middle with 11 kills and Emma Moriarty put up big numbers on the outside, recording 10 kills.

     Zimmerman had another great outing, assisting 19 times throughout the match.

     Defensively, the team was led by Ruggaber's 10 digs.

     Oswego finds itself back in action on Friday at the Geneseo Tournament. The Lakers have a match at 5 p.m. against the University of Rochester followed by a 7 p.m. match with Medaille College.
