     Sheriff Reuel A. Todd advises there are many schemes to defraud in place today and warns the public to beware of attempts to scam.

     Fort Ontario State Historic Site and its superintendent, Paul Lear, will be featured in a public television documentary entitled "Losing Ground: The Race to Preserve War of 1812 Battlefields in New York State," at 9 p.m. Feb 10 on WCNY.

     Being a long cold winter, what better way to leave it behind if only for a short time than to tap into your creativity. Lakeside Artisans has two classes coming up in February.

     Audiences will have the opportunity to hear two of Canada`s foremost historians, author Dianne Graves and her husband, military historian Donald E. Graves, speak about civilian life during the War of 1812 and the British assault of Fort Erie at the Oswego War of 1812 Symposium Saturday, April 5.

Carl Emmons, Chair of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and Paul Conzone, Treasurer of the Oswego Fire Fighters Association, 126 Union present Carolyn Handville, coordinator of Oswego County Opportunities' Cancer Services Program Partnership with a donation in the amount of $2,500. The Oswego City Fire Fighters raised the money by selling specially designed pink t-shirts in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month. All proceeds will be used towards medical expenses that uninsured Oswego County residents face when obtaining life saving cancer screenings and diagnostic services.      In 1792, after the Revolutionary War and long before he began his term as the nation`s fourth President, James Madison wrote, `War contains so much folly, as well as wickedness, that much is to be hoped from the progress of reason; and if any thing is to be hoped, every thing ought to be tried.` Ironically, although it is unlikely that he anticipated another war with Great Britain, Madison`s term encompassed the War of 1812, also known as the Second War for Independence.

     Lakeside Artisans, 191 West First Street, Oswego, is offering a class in Hand Painted Silk Scarves, another in its series of creative educational experiences for adults in our community. On Saturday, April 29, from 10am to 12pm, Cindy Schmidt will offer a class in how to use the resist and dye to decorate a silk scarf. Each participant will produce a scarf of their own design. All materials will be provided. There is a class limit of 6 participants.
To register for a class, a non-refundable registration fee of $10 is required. The deposit may be delivered to the store or mailed to Lakeside Artisans, 191 West First Street, Oswego NY 13126.
