Sleep in Heavenly Peace Recruiting Volunteers for Oswego County Supply Hub
Phoenix, N.Y. – More than 60 volunteers from Erin’s Angels of CNY and Sleep in Heavenly Peace came together Saturday, June 13, to build 55 beds for children in Oswego County who do not have a bed of their own.
The community bed build took place at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School, where volunteers spent the morning sanding, drilling and assembling headboards, side rails and sets of slats that will soon be delivered to local children that currently do not have a bed of their own.
The effort addressed a critical but often overlooked basic need. Many children lack a safe and comfortable place to sleep, which can affect their health, well-being, and ability to learn.
“This is what happens when a community comes together with heart and purpose,” said Lindsay “Lu” Hart, president of the Erin’s Angels of CNY Board of Directors. “Because of these volunteers, children in our community will have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. That changes everything for a child’s confidence, health, and ability to succeed.”
The event marked the beginning of a partnership between Erin’s Angels of CNY and Sleep in Heavenly Peace to ensure no child sleeps on the floor.
“We are grateful to partner with Erin’s Angels and this incredible group of volunteers,” said Dave Hoalcraft, co-president of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Syracuse chapter. “Seeing more than 60 people show up ready to serve speaks volumes about this community. These beds will make an immediate difference for children right here in Oswego County.”
To expand efforts locally, organizers are recruiting volunteers to help manage a Sleep in Heavenly Peace supply hub in Oswego County. The SHP hub will support storage, organization, and distribution of bed frames, mattresses and bedding for deliveries in Oswego County, increasing the number of children who can be served. The bed build was supported by community partners including Grow Wealth Partners, the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, Trask Embroidery, King + King Architects, SanMar, Small Town Girl Marketing, and Dunkin’.
