From Soil to Canvas: Painting with Soil Workshop

The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center invites the public to join artist Charles Malone for another Nature Inspires session, From Soil to Canvas, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

This hands-on workshop will delve into the fascinating connection between art, geology, and the natural world through the creation of paint made from soil.

Participants will learn how natural soil can be dried, prepared, and transformed into pigment, revealing the remarkable range of colors found beneath our feet. Attendees will also explore soil profiles and discover how soil develops its unique colors based on parent materials, such as bedrock and mineral content.

Using handmade soil paints, participants will create original artwork while learning about the history and earth-based origins of natural pigments. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to experience the intersection of creativity and science while developing a deeper appreciation for the landscapes that surround us.

Whether you are an artist, nature enthusiast, or simply curious about the colors of the earth, From Soil to Canvas promises an engaging and inspiring experience for participants of all skill levels.
