On September 1, Sunshine Healing opened its doors in Oswego at 22 W. Oneida Street.
The wellness practice is located inside The Soul Center. Owner Kira Axtell, an Oswego native, offers a variety of services, including chakra balancing, sound baths, guided meditations, and more.
She got her start on the client side, as someone trying to manage her own chronic health conditions naturally. “It’s not a replacement for doctors and medicine, but it allowed me to go from barely getting by to managing my illnesses well.“
The modality is an ancient one, with roots in India. And, in fact, recent studies have found a link between certain acoustic frequencies and improved health outcomes, though how exactly it works is still unclear. "It's science, we just don't understand it all yet," Kira told our team.
Axtell first began with a mobile practice where she brought her services to people’s homes. “While that was nice,” Kira told iHeart, “it led to a lot of people apologizing and feeling embarrassment about their space.” This prompted her journey to find an ideal space to host her services.
After one year of operating out of a shared healing space in Liverpool, Axtell was excited to be able to move her practice back to her hometown.
For those of you who don’t know Kira, expect a kind, gentle soul with a heart of gold. When the iHeart team first arrived at Sunshine Healing, she was in the process of trying to reunite a baby squirrel with its mother. There aren’t too many people who would take time out of their day to contact wildlife rehabilitation workers about a lone baby squirrel.
But this heart and compassion is exactly what makes her services so special. Axtell takes care to meet her clients where they are, and she provides detailed information about what to expect for those who may struggle with anxiety or who are unsure about energy work as a whole.
Sunshine Healing is open Thursday through Monday. You can schedule appointments online at her website, sunshinehealing.org.
“I’m proud to say everyone leaves here feeling better,” she told iHeart. “I started doing this because I wanted to help people the way I was helped.”
We at iHeart Oswego are excited to have Kira and Sunshine Healing right here at home. Find out more about her work at sunshinehealing.org.
