Summer brings plenty of fun outdoor traditions, like backyard barbeques, picnics on the beach, and, of course, plenty of fireworks.

Balanced attack pushes Oswego State women's lacrosse to 17-6 win

OS LacrossFreshman Erannan Shattuck (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored four goals, and was one of 11 different Laker players to score in the Oswego State women's lacrosse team's (3-2) 17-6 win over SUNY Canton (2-3) on Monday afternoon, March 25.

Shattuck also added an assist for five points followed by three goals from Mackenzie Kjerstad (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and a goal and two assists from Libby Sherman (Fr., Oswego, N.Y.).
Shattuck helped get the Laker offense rolling as she scored two of her goals in the game's first eight minutes to bookend a 4-0 run. Kjerstad and Esther Gabriel (Fr., Lancaster, N.Y.) contributed a pair of free-position goals as part of the stretch. The Roos recorded a free-position goal of their own with 20 minutes left in the first half before Shattuck and Kjerstad were beneficiaries of passes from Jayme McCreary (Fr., Waterloo, N.Y.) and Becky Guess (So., Burnt Hills, N.Y.) to put Oswego State up 6-1.
SUNY Canton cut the lead to three goals with goals from Brooke Knight and Tressa Goolden, while the Roos were playing a player short due to a yellow card. However, the Lakers responded by posting three goals with an extra attacker. Danielle Citro (Sr., Miller Place, N.Y.) and Sherman tallied unassisted goals 23 seconds apart before Sherman found Brittany Koelmel (Jr., Dexter, N.Y.) open for a score with 53 seconds remaining in the frame. Keeley Rice added a goal for SUNY Canton at the end of the half to make the score, 9-4, in favor of the visitors.
Knight scored less than two minutes into the second half, but that would be as close as SUNY Canton would get as Oswego State outscored the Roos, 8-1, the rest of the way. Lindsey Eggers (Fr., Ridge, N.Y.) joined the scoring act with two more goals being added by Shattuck and Kjerstad. Rice notched her second goal of the game with 20:22 to play.
McCreary, Michelle Ruskey (Sr., Deerfield, N.Y.), Gabriel, Candace Tarana (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Corinne Marsh (Jr., Endwell, N.Y.) rounded out the Laker scoring en route to the 17-6 win.
Oswego State owned a 27-17 shots on goal advantage, as Nikki Greco (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) made two saves in the first half and Lauren Marois (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) made nine saves in the second. Roo goalie Alyssa Altschuler stopped 10 shots in the losing effort. Laker defenders Elise Tartaglia (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) and Megan McNulty (Jr., Holbrook, N.Y.) paced the team with six and five groundballs, respectively.
The Lakers have little time to rest before traveling to Utica to face the Pioneers at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 27.
