Both Swim Teams in Sixth at SUNYAC Championships

Both Swim Teams in Sixth at SUNYAC Championships

The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams both moved into sixth place after the third day of the SUNYAC Championships at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Athletic Center on Friday. Oswego's women have 167.5 points and are just 15.5 points out of fifth place while the men hold 183 points heading into the meet's final day.

The men started in the day's first event with 28 points in the 200-yard medley relay. Devon Foster, Jacob Mullett, Sanjay Raman and Austin Nau clocked a finals time of 1:36.77, edging Oneonta by less than a second. Mullett continued the point scoring with an 11-point performance in the 400-yard IM, with his time of 4:24.25 for eighth place. Raman followed suit with a 53.29 time in the 100-yard butterfly, good for five points while James Dillon also garnered five points with 12th place (1:48.22) in the 200-yard freestyle.

Two Lakers combined for 10 points in the 100-yard breaststroke, as Dylan Tiefenthaler grabbed ninth place and Nathan Taylor took 16th. In the 100-yard backstroke, Foster, John Miller and Nau collected ninth, 13th and 14th, respectively, to accumulate 16 team points. Diver Luke Snyder made the NCAA Division III "B" cut with 444.45 points on the 1-meter board, god for 12 tallies for Oswego. The Lakers' final points came as Foster, Mullett, Nau and Dillon registered 26 for a sixth place in the 800-yard free relay.

On the women's side, freshman Riley Synan had the highest Laker finish, taking fourth in the 100-yard butterfly. Synan touched the wall in 58.55 for 15 points added to the team score while sophomore Aran Kilcoyne nabbed two points in 15th place. In the 400-yard IM, Abigail Mullett and Stephanie Noga finished back-to-back in 11th and 12th place for a combined 11 points.

Another pair of Lakers wound up with top 16 finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke, as Emily Karzes and Megan Kowalski ended in 14th and 16th place, respectively. One more duo appeared in event 24, with Hannah Jensen (10th) and Natalie Brophy (14th) garnering 10 points.

The relay teams bookended the day, starting with the 200-yard medley group of Brophy, Karszes, Synan and Emily Doe recording 26 points in sixth place. In Friday's final event, the 800-yard free, Emily Burton, Jense, Noga and Synan racked up 28 points as they finished fifth.
