The Oswego State golf team moved up one spot on the final day of the 16th Annual St. Lawrence University Invitational, taking a sixth place finish in the 12 team field. Oswego shaved 10 strokes off its Saturday score, shooting a Sunday 312 (+24) for a two-day tournament total of 634 (+58).
Senior Dan North was the steady hand on the weekend, scoring a consistent 78 (+6) on both days for a tie for 17th place. Classmate Michael Marshall was also tied for 17th place in the tournament but in much different fashion. The Syracuse, N.Y. native shot six-strokes better on Sunday than his first day finish, ending with the Lakers' best individual round of the weekend with a 75 (+4). That total helped Marshall move up 14 places on the leaderboard on the final day, securing a tie with North and two golfers from Hamilton College.
Two shots back of the Laker leaders was Stuart Winn, combining for a plus-14 158 over the two rounds. He eliminated two strokes from his Saturday round on the final day, securing a 78 (+6) and a 22nd place finish.
Also scoring for Oswego, with finishes in the top 40, were Tyler Wurzer and Cody Weiss. Wurzer was plus-20 for the weekend, shooting an 83 on Saturday and an 81 on Sunday. Weiss, a freshman, also shot an 83 on Saturday and followed that with the same total on Sunday.
The Lakers will not take much time before returning to the course, heading to Potsdam for a quad-match with the Bears, Clarkson University and SUNY Canton at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
