Lakers Downed by No. 18 Geneseo at Home

The Oswego State women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-6 contest to No. 18 Geneseo on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. With the loss, the Lakers are now 4-7 overall and 0-4 in SUNYAC play while the Knights improve to 7-1, 2-1.

In the first half, the two squads traded a goal apiece, with Oswego's coming from Lindsey Eggers, before Geneseo notched three-straight goals to capture a 4-1 lead with 16:37 left to play in the period. Less than two minutes later,Esther Gabriel started a streak of her own. The junior posted back-to-back goals within five minutes of each other, cutting the Knights' advantage to 4-3.

For the second time in the opening 30 minutes, Oswego and Geneseo swapped goals, with the Lakers' coming on a free-position conversion from Kelsey Henderson to bring the team back within a tally. Geneseo was able to a free-position of its own before the half, making it 6-4 heading to the break.

Each of the Lakers' first three goals were assisted by Erannan Shattuck.

Emily Lane notched the two Oswego goals in the second half, the first coming on an assist from Esther Gabriel at 17:38 while the other was distributed by Gemma O'Kane with exactly two minutes to play.

Oswego was a perfect 14-for-14 on the clear and caused one more turnover than the Knights (10-9).Maddie Troia, Kelsey Henderson and Lange paced the Lakers in forcing turnovers, each causing two apiece. Henderson also registered a game-high five ground balls.

Angela Ponto took the loss in net for Oswego, making six saves in the effort.

The Lakers will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to face No. 5 Cortland in a conference battle.
