The Oswego State women's lacrosse team made it four-straight victories with a 14-4 rout of the University of Rochester at Laker Turf Stadium on Friday afternoon. Oswego improves to 4-1 on the year while the Yellowjackets drop to .500 (3-3).
After scoring the game's first two goals, the Lakers allowed Rochester to record two of its own, knotting the game with 16:21 left in the first half. Oswego then rattled off six-unanswered tallies to head into the break leading 8-2. The second half was no different, as the Lakers opened the period with six more goals, all in a row, to gain a 14-2 advantage. Rochester chipped away with a pair of late goals but it was too little, too late as the Lakers wrapped up the 10-goal win.
For the second time in the last three games, Erannan Shattuck finished with double-figures in the point's column. The senior scored three of the Lakers' first four goals, which ended the attacking portion of her day. She then assisted on seven of the next nine Oswego shots that found the back of the net to complete her 10-point outing.
Teresa Shattuck was next on the team in points, also notching three goals while distributing two assists. Senior Esther Gabriel had a three-goal day while classmate Emily Lange and junior Briana Kimble each scored twice. Sophomore Gemma O'Kane had two points as well, coming on a goal and assist. Rounding out the Lakers who recorded a point was senior Lindsey Eggers with one assist.
On the draw, senior Emily Lange led the way with four while Gabriel had two and five others gathered one apiece. Sophomore Angela Ponto continued her dominance in net for the Lakers, stopping nine shots while allowing just four goals.
As a team, Oswego was an efficient 16-for-20 on the clear, finished a perfect 2-for-2 on free-position opportunities and scored on both woman-up chances.
The Lakers will now hop into conference play for their next game, traveling to Oneonta to face the Red Dragons at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
