Lakers Play Cardinals Close, Falling 66-61

OS Basketball

The Oswego State women's basketball team fell 66-61 to Plattsburgh at Max Ziel Gymnasium this afternoon. With the loss, the team goes to 8-15 overall and 6-10 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh goes to 10-12 on the season, 9-8 in the conference.

It was a close game throughout for the first 17 minutes, with neither team able to take more than a five point lead. The Cardinals would go on an 18-5 run to close out the last six minutes though, taking a 36-25 lead into the half. The second half was game of catch-up for the Lakers as they cut Plattsburgh's lead down to one on multiple occasions. Lexi Gillard hit a 3-pointer at the 7:56 mark to make it a one score game but the Cardinals responded and built their lead back. The Lakers had an opportunity to take the lead again as Allison Nunziato hit two free-throws with 1:23 left in regulation. Plattsburgh would fend off the come-back though, and defeat Oswego 66-61.

Alisha Jacobs led all Lakers in scoring, picking up 13 in total. Mary Mazzella pitched in as well, scoring 12 points of her own.

Underneath the hoop, Rachel Windhausen led the team in boards, fetching 13 on the afternoon.
