Late Goal Helps Oswego Earn First Conference Win

OS Lacross The Oswego State women's lacrosse team earned its first conference win of the season 6-5 over visiting Buffalo State on Tuesday afternoon on South Athletic Field. With the win, Oswego improves to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC action while the Bengals fall to 7-4, 2-2.

Lindsay Eggers was awarded a free-position shot late in the second half after being fouled on a play. Eggers took the attempt to distribute a pass to a cutting Emily Lange who buried the game-winner past the goalie's left shoulder with just 1:19 to play.

Buffalo State had one more possession to try and tie the contest but with a Bengal making a move to the cage, Melissa Bulman checked the ball free for her third caused turnover of the game and Megan McNulty was able to scoop up the ground ball. McNulty successfully cleared the ball into the Lakers offensive zone in the waning seconds to preserve the victory.

Erannan Shattuck led Oswego on offense, scoring three goals while collecting two ground balls. Lange, Brittany Koelmel and Candace Tarana accounted for the Lakers' other goals, each finishing with one.

Eggers finished with the assist on the game-winner and a team-best three ground balls. Esther Gabriel paced the Lakers on the draw, controlling six throughout the 60 minutes. Gabriel's six draw controls outdid the entire Bengal squad, as Oswego won that battle 9-4.

In net, Nikki Greco earned her sixth win of the season, stopping four shots along the way.

The Lakers were nearly perfect on the clear, completing 14 of its 16 chances.

Oswego will return to action at 4 p.m. on Thursday when its hosts Houghton College in a nonconference contest.
