The Oswego State women's lacrosse team defeated RIT, 15-13, on Monday evening. With the victory, Oswego improves to a perfect 2-0 to start the season, while RIT falls to 0-1.
Despite an early 3-1 deficit in the first half, Oswego came back to score nine unanswered goals and take a 10-3 lead. The Lakers were able to take advantage of three free-position shots during the 9-0 run. With two goals and four assists in the first half, Teresa Shattuckcontributed to six of the Lakers' 11 goals. In the second half, Oswego put up four more goals to preserve its lead.
Junior Brigid Regin scored a game-high five goals in the win. Classmates Toni Laneve and Shattuck followed closely behind, each with three goals for a hat trick. Shattuck, who set a program record with 56 assists last season, dished out four assists as well.
As a team, Oswego edged out RIT in most statistical categories. The Lakers outshot the Tigers, 31-29, and notched 18 ground balls compared to the Tigers' 17.
Goalie Angela Ponto played the entire game for the Lakers, collecting nine saves. The senior earned her second win of the season.
With a quick turnaround, the Lakers return to action when they travel to Potsdam, N.Y. to face Clarkson at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
