The Oswego State baseball team took a doubleheader split at New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. Oswego moves to 10-5 overall on the year and 2-3 in SUNYAC action while the Hawks go to 9-15, 1-7.
GAME ONE – Oswego 4, New Paltz 0:
Brendyn Karinchak threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Lakers in the first game. In a nine-inning contest, Karinchak scattered nine hits and walked just one Hawk while striking out five others.
At the plate, Kyle Liner and Scott Buniak were both 2-for-3 at the plate while Tim Smith also had two hits with one more at-bat. Smith drove in a run and crossed the plate himself while Buniak and Liner both scored once.
Buniak and John Rauseo terrorized the base paths, each swiping two bags. Smith and Dan Saccocio both grabbed a stolen base as well Rauseo also drove in a run, as did Eric Hamilton.
GAME TWO – New Paltz 5, Oswego 4:
Oswego took a tough loss in the nightcap as it led 4-1 heading to the seventh and final inning. New Paltz was able to grab four runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-4 edge and the Lakers were not able to even in the score in their half.
Saccocio finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored. Mike McMullen also had two hits with his coming in four at-bats while driving in a run and scoring another.
Hamilton and Myles Kutscher each had one hit and one RBI.
The two teams will face each other again at 12 p.m. on Sunday for a nine-inning battle.
