Four Oswego State baseball players received All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recognition as voted on by the league's coaches. Scott Buniak (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.), Dan Erne (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Brian Hamilton (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) were chosen as First Team selections, while Mike McMullen (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) was a Second Team pick. All four players were first-time honorees.
Buniak, a stalwart in center field for three seasons, was perfect defensively after recording 51 putouts and two assists in 53 opportunities. He was third in the SUNYAC with six stolen bases, while only being caught once. Buniak recorded a .284 batting average, a .358 slugging percentage and a .368 on-base percentage in 18 conference contests.
On the mound, Erne paced the SUNYAC with a 1.15 ERA over the course of 39.0 innings pitched en route to a 4-1 record, which was tied for the most wins in the league. He was tied for the second fewest runs allowed in the league at five. During one stretch in the season, Erne did not give up an earned run for 27 consecutive innings.
Hamilton's 13 RBI in 15 conference games were tied for the third-highest total in the league. The third baseman sat in the top-25 of three offensive categories including batting average (.286), slugging percentage (.393) and hits (16). He also posted a .935 fielding percentage.
McMullen, who started all 18 SUNYAC games at shortstop, was fourth in the conference with a .419 batting average, seventh with a .484 slugging percentage, tied for eighth with 11 RBI and tied for second with 26 hits. He also had the eighth-highest on-base percentage at .471.
The Lakers finished tied for second in the conference with a record of 12-6, and later went on to finish second in the SUNYAC Tournament.
