The holidays can be a difficult time of year for those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
The Oswego County Suicide Prevention Coalition, a community-based collaborative dedicated to promoting mental health and reducing suicide across Oswego County, organized a Remembrance Tree as part of the Pratt House Museum’s annual Parade of Trees. This meaningful tree, adorned with personalized ornaments that carry the names of loved ones submitted by families and friends. Each ornament represents a life remembered and a story cherished. The tree serves as a heartfelt reminder that these individuals continue to be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, honoring 64 loved ones who have completed suicide.
Each year, the Parade of Trees features a contest honoring the community's favorite trees in different categories. You can vote for the Remembrance Tree to receive this recognition in its category once a day by visiting the museum during the Parade of Trees, which runs from December 1st to December 12th.
Together with the Prevention Network of Central New York, the Oswego County Suicide Prevention Coalition works to strengthen community health through, in the words of a representative from the coalition, “evidence-based prevention programs, youth engagement, and substance misuse education.” The two organizations are committed to building safer, more informed, and more resilient communities across the region.
Initiatives like the Remembrance Tree highlight the importance of connection, healing, and community support during difficult times. The tree is on display as part of the Pratt House Museum’s Parade of Trees, on display December 1–12, 2025. The event is organized by the Friends of History in Fulton.
