Reader Voices: An Endless Cycle of Suffering

Write a comment

The US started a war of aggression against Iran. Then, in the middle of a phony cease-fire, the US attacked Iran and claimed they were "self-defense strikes."

Instead of ridicule, the majority of the US free press loyally reported the US attacks against Iran as "self-defense."

Washington has repeated for months its war of aggression against Iran was a short war. Specifically, for the last two months, Washington assured us a negotiation with Iran remained days away. But the US attacks Iran repeatedly, and blockades Iranian ports. The US war of aggression against Iran continues to have no end in sight.

Even if there was a negotiation, Washington would quickly find a way to attack Iran again. Whether through military force or economic warfare. This is the pattern Washington continues to approve of in Lebanon and Gaza. Israeli airstrikes, with US missiles and US fighter jets, violate the cease-fires daily.

Israeli journalists repeat over and over again that the Gaza and Lebanon cease-fires are performative. They amount to political kabuki. Israeli reporter Amos Harel wrote in Haaretz, "the Americans announced a cease-fire in Lebanon (which was never implemented) almost a month ago."

Despite the ceasefire announced by Washington in April 2026, Israel continued to bomb Lebanon on a daily basis. Haaretz revealed, "[Israeli] army officials admit, there is effectively no cease-fire."

Haaretz continued, "Under the guise of 'cease-fires' in Lebanon and Gaza that [Israel] did not obey for even a moment, the army is expanding the area of both combat zones." Israel "declared the entirety of southern Lebanon a combat zone." Daily US weapon shipments have allowed Israel to carry out "hundreds of airstrikes."

Israel uses US bulldozers to destroy Lebanese villages. The Wall Street Journal wrote Israel erased large "swaths of Lebanese villages along the border with Israel."

Last Wednesday, Washington announced another cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel. Yet, Haaretz wrote, "Israel has continued to strike southern Lebanon." Israel does this with complete backing from Washington.

After the Trump-Netanyahu phone call, Haaretz reiterated that Israel is dependent on Washington. Amos Harel wrote, "Israel's defense policy is completely dependent on and subordinate to the Americans." Any "fighting in Lebanon now depends on Trump's decision." Despite Trump's foul language, the weapon shipments kept flowing to Israel.

Trump gave Netanyahu approval to airstrike Beirut on Sunday, June 7th. Yet, US mass media outlets keep reporting on the cease-fires as if they are real. Save the Children wrote, "This 'so called' ceasefire [in Lebanon] still sees more than four children killed or injured every day... Attacks on civilians have not stopped; They have simply continued under another name."

In Gaza, Haaretz wrote that Israel is "bombing and shelling daily from the air, sea and land."

The United Nations Children's Fund wrote that children in Gaza are trapped in, "an endless cycle of suffering." Furthermore, it's "entirely unconscionable."

It's entirely unconscionable that taxpayers fund the daily weapon shipments that continue the endless suffering of Palestinian and Lebanese children.
