MACS celebrates Hill, Nguyen-Truong as Class of 2026's top scholars

Seniors Jessica Hill and Toro Nguyen-Truong have earned the distinction of valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Mexico Academy & Central School District’s Class of 2026.

Mexico High School Principal Christopher Soluri said Jessica and Toro exemplify the dedication, leadership and character that make the Mexico community proud.

"Jessica and Toro are incredibly hardworking individuals who dedicated themselves to earn these academic achievements, and they should be very proud of themselves," Soluri said. "We want to recognize them for not only all their successes inside the classroom but also note they are both excellent leaders who will become outstanding citizens. Though your time at MACS is coming to an end, remember we are always cheering you on, and you will always be Tigers."

Jessica, daughter of Rob and Paula Hill, graduates as this year's valedictorian. A Mexico Elementary School alumna, she has immersed herself in school life throughout her time at MACS, serving as a student representative on the MACS Board of Education while participating in varsity tennis, robotics club, Student Senate, OCAY League and numerous honor societies. Her involvement has also extended to chorus, all-county chorus and NYSSMA solos.

This fall, Jessica will attend Syracuse University to study physics. She hopes to pursue a career as either a mechanical engineer or physicist.

As she reflects on her high school experience, Jessica encourages her classmates to embrace kindness and authenticity.

"Be kind to others, be kind to things, but most importantly, be kind to yourself," she said. "Have fun and make memories with those that you love. Don't go through life worrying about how others will perceive you, just do what brings you joy with the people who bring you joy."

Toro, daughter of Tien Truong and Michael Damanski, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2026. A graduate of Cicero Elementary School, she has balanced academics with involvement in robotics club, varsity softball, German club and adventure club while earning membership in several honor societies.

She plans to attend Olin College of Engineering near Boston to study mechanical engineering and pursue a career in the field.

Toro's advice to her classmates is rooted in maintaining a love of learning.

"Stay curious and passionate about things," she said. "Learning isn't restricted to school, nor does it always need to be 'useful.' The knowledge itself isn't the only benefit, but rather, the ability to seek it out, as well."

The Mexico High School Class of 2026 will celebrate commencement at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, in the Mexico Academy Athletic Stadium.
