Oswego County Releases Updated Fishing and Hunting Guide

Oswego County Releases Updated Fishing and Hunting Guide

The updated Oswego County Fishing and Hunting Guide is now available online and in print.

The guide features a new cover and an expanded listing of fishing guides and charters.

The 67-page guide includes a detailed overview of fishing opportunities on eastern Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake, the Oswego and Salmon rivers and a variety of other tributaries, as well as the more than 40,000 acres of public lands available for hunting.

“Fishing is one of Oswego County’s major attractions,” said Oswego County Legislator Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10, chairwoman of the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning committee. “More than 30,000 fishing licenses are sold here annually, and thousands of people flock to our county every year to experience our world-class, four-season fishery. With its abundance of natural resources, Oswego County is a prime destination for sportsmen and all who love the great outdoors.”

Readers can find directories of marinas and launches, charter captains and guides, tackle shops and smokehouses, along with descriptions of fishing and hunting sites across Oswego County.

The guide provides an overview of fishing for each season in Oswego County – from ice fishing on North Sandy Pond and winter fishing on the Oswego River, to spring and summer angling on Lake Ontario and the famous salmon run each fall. Special sections include tips for steelhead and smallmouth fishing on the Salmon River and public fishing access points on Oneida Lake.

“Our updated Fishing and Hunting Guide includes new eye-catching images, updated listings of fishing guides and charters, and more,” said Tim Stahl, director of the Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department. “It’s a great resource for anglers looking to return to or discover Oswego County, and we hope this information will enhance their experience while they explore all that we have to offer.”

More than 50,000 copies of the guide will be distributed at outdoor recreation and travel shows, tourism information centers, marinas, tackle shops, campgrounds and other local businesses and attractions throughout New York and surrounding states. Targeted areas include the Capital Region, Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, as well as areas across Pennsylvania, Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

The Fishing and Hunting Guide is available in print or online at www.visitoswegocounty.com. Anglers can also access the Oswego County Tourism fishing report for year-round fishing conditions by calling 1-800-248-4FUN (4386).

To help you plan your trip, the Oswego County Visitor Guide is also available online or in print. It offers details about attractions, events, historical sites and museums, and year-round recreational activities such as boating, hiking and snowmobiling.
