The Oswego State baseball team split a doubleheader at Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. After the split, the Lakers are 14-6 on the year and 6-4 in SUNYAC action while the Red Dragons move to 9-17, 4-3.
GAME ONE – Oswego 7, Oneonta 3:
For the second-straight game, Oswego received a complete-game from its starting pitcher. Miles Kelly threw the full seven innings less than 24 hours after Brendyn Karinchak tossed a complete-game one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks. Kelly scattered eight hits that led to three runs, striking out four batters while walking just one.
Oswego dominated the entire way, leading 7-0 going into the bottom of the final inning when Oneonta finally got on the board. The Lakers were led by Tim Smith at the plate, as he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Smith had a double in the game, as did Eric Hamilton and Zach Kollar.
Hamilton had two drove in two runs to go with his double.
Also finishing with hits for the Lakers were Dan Saccocio, Mike McMullen and Dan Karleski. McMullen and Michael Miscari both had one RBI.
GAME TWO – ONEONTA 15, OSWEGO 12:
In a back-and-forth game, Oswego looked to land the last blow with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Those runs gave the Lakers a 12-9 advantage. Oneonta was able to whether the three-run frame by answering with three of its own in the bottom half. The very next inning the Red Dragons scored what would be the game-winning run and followed that with an insurance run to solidify the victory.
McMullen, John Rauseo and Scott Buniak all had three hits in the game, with Buniak going for three RBI and a triple. Rauseo and McMullen both drove in two runs with Rauseo crossing the plate twice himself.
Smith, Saccocio and Myles Kutscher each turned in two hits.
On the mound, Cody LaFlamme got the start, going 3.1 innings. LaFlamme let up five runs, four of which were earned. Pat Brown then came in for 2.1 innings, also giving up five runs, only three that were earned. John-Michael Guarino took the loss in just one-third of an inning, giving up three run, even though just one was earned. Josh Martin and Ryan Donovan combined to throw the final two innings.
The Lakers will be back on the diamond at 1 p.m. on Monday at Cortland for a conference doubleheader.
