The Oswego State wrestling team were led by Scott Bova's first-place finish in the 184-weight class on its way to a sixth place at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Oswego collected 95 team points during the invite, 25 points higher than the next closest opponent. John Carroll won the event with 138 points while the host Tigers took fourth with 120.5.
Bova went a perfect 4-0 on the day with three decisions and a fall. The junior's first victory came by 5-2 decision over Vincent Provenzano of Oneonta before earning his one fall at 1:44 against Alfred State College's Amari Brown. In the 184 semifinal bout, Bova took another 5-2 decision, this time beating Simon Levin of Wesleyan. The first-place match went to Bova, defeating Steven Schmitz 5-0 to capture 17 points for the Lakers.
Oswego had a pair of third-place finishers at RIT, with Abubakarr Sow taking the spot at 157 while James Ronca wrestled to third at 125. Sow recorded three wins by fall, two by decision and one by major decision on his way to a 6-1 record and team-best 19.50 points. Ronca was close behind with 15.50 team points after going 3-1 with two falls and a 5-3 decision in the third-place match.
Also competing to a top-five spot in their weight classes were Mark Milisci (149) and Adam Erno (133). Milisci scored 12.50 points with a 4-2 mark while Erno accumulated the same amount for the squad with three wins on the day.
Oswego will be back at it in its home-opener at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts nationally-ranked Ithaca College in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
