The American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings have honored two members of the Oswego State baseball team with selections to their All-New York Region teams. Scott Buniak and Brendyn Karinchak were both named to the All-New York Region Third Team.
Buniak, a senior centerfielder, led the Lakers with a .377 batting average in 2014. The senior also tied for the team-lead with 46 hits while pacing Oswego with seven doubles, a .467 slugging percentage, a .465 on-base percentage and 18 steals on just 20 attempts.
A native of Clifton Park, Buniak solidified the outfield by playing center, committing just two errors on 86 chances. In his final doubleheader as a Laker against Utica College, Buniak swiped two bases in the nightcap to bump his career total to 55 which tied the College's record which was originally set by Jamie Rutherford from 1982-85.
Buniak was also an All-Region performer as a junior as D3baseball.com named him to its New York Third Team in 2013.
Karinchak earned All-Region for his ability and statistics as the Lakers' No. 1 starting pitcher. The junior-transfer led the team with a 1.62 ERA over 61.0 innings pitched. He appeared in eight games, starting each of those, collecting a 5-1 record on the year. Karinchak also led Oswego with four complete-games and 41 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .264 batting average.
The Walden native had his most impressive outing against Oneonta on Friday, April 11. Karinchak threw nine innings of one-hit baseball, striking out 13 Red Dragons and allowing zero walks on his way to earning a spot on D3baseball.com's Team of the Week, ECAC Pitcher of the Week and SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week.
At the SUNYAC Championship, the junior threw a complete-game to help the Lakers earn a win on the opening day of the tournament. For his effort, Karinchak was named to the All-Tournament team.
