Eight Lakers Named to All-Conference Teams

Eight Lakers Named to All-Conference Teams

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named seven members of the Oswego State women’s lacrosse squad to one of its three All-Conference teams.

Teresa Shattuck, Brigid Regin, Danielle Walker and Angela Ponto were each named to the first team, Toni Laneve earned second team accolades while Montana Garrett, Riley Jaquin and Gemma O'Kane made the third team.

Shattuck was one of the most dominant players, not only in the conference, but in the nation as well. She led all league players in points (88) and assists (58) – 12 points more than the next closest individual and more than 20 assists better than the player holding second in that category. Shattuck's facilitating has placed her in the Laker record books, as she broke her own record for single-season assists in 2018 and holds the program record for assists in a career (163), needing just three years to claim the milestone. The Syracuse, N.Y. native also holds the second position in career points at 247, just 57 back of Kathryn Stead's program best of 304. Currently, Shattuck ranks fourth nationally in both assists and assists per game. She was also second in the SUNYAC in draw controls with 86.

Regin made her presence known in her first year with the Lakers, scoring 61 points with 42 goals and 19 assists. The transfer-junior's 42 goals were second on the Lakers and tied for the fourth-most in the SUNYAC. She took a majority of the draws for Oswego, controlling 38, good for a top-15 spot in the league. Regin had a career day at New Paltz on April 10, notching a career-high seven goals, single-handedly outscoring the Hawks in a 14-5 victory. The Syracuse, N.Y. native had two, six-point outings in the last four games, helping the Lakers to solidify a playoff spot.

Oswego's defense was anchored by defender Walker and goalie Ponto. The Lakers' defense allowed less than nine goals a game on the season, thanks to the duo's efforts. Walker – a junior – had the second-most caused turnovers in the SUNYAC with 30 and scooped up the fifth-most ground balls (39). Ponto stifled opponents' offenses all year, with a save percentage of .541 to lead the conference and a top-20 spot in the nation. The senior's goals-against average of 8.57 was just .04 off the top spot in the SUNYAC and is currently good for 38th in the country. Ponto made 21 saves in the Lakers' SUNYAC Championship semifinal loss to top-seeded Cortland, setting a new career-high and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Walker has now been named All-Conference each of the last two years while Ponto collects her third-consecutive honor.

For the second-straight year, Laneve claims a spot on the All-SUNYAC Second Team. She paced Oswego with 43 goals on the year, good for sole possession of fourth place in the league. In fact, Laneve was one of just eight players in the SUNYAC to reach the 40-goal plateau.

On the third team, O'Kane narrowly missed the 40-goal plateau with 38 tallies, the third-most for Oswego and 10th-most in the conference. The senior was consistent throughout the year, especially during the SUNYAC schedule, where she accumulated two or more points in all but two games.

One spot behind O'Kane on the Laker goal leaderboard was Garrett, with 36. Four of Garrett's goals came in the final round of the SUNYAC Championship, tying her for the game-high with Shattuck. The sophomore was also crucial to the team in collecting ground balls. Garrett's 24 ground balls on the season ranked first among Laker attackers.

Jaquin – a freshman – earned a spot on the same team as O'Kane and Garrett for her 29 points, 24 of which came by way of a goal. The Oswego, N.Y. native really excelled during the conference slate, registering five points twice in league play, including a five-goal outburst against Buffalo State at home.

The Lakers wrapped the season with a trip to the SUNYAC Championship semifinal round and posted an 11-6 mark, the second-most wins in a single season in program history.
