The Oswego State golf team secured a runner-up finish on Wednesday at the Keuka College Fall Invitational, held at the Lakeside Country Club. Oswego was just eight strokes off the leader – SUNY Delhi (315; +27) – behind a team score of 323 (+35).
Stu Winn made it a memorable day on the individual leaderboard as he tied for first with a 75 (+3) and was named the medalist in a tiebreaker. Winn was just one of four golfers to break 80 on the day, out of a field of nearly 60.
Also in the top 10 for the Lakers were Jackson Mordaunt and Erik Schleicher. Mordaunt held sole possession of sixth place with a plus-9, 81 while Schleicher was one stroke back of his teammate in a tie for seventh. The final scorer towards Oswego's team tally was Kyle McCloskey, earning a tie for 17th with a plus-13, 85.
Zach Hiris was just two strokes out of the scoring for Oswego, shooting a 18-hole total of 87, good for a tie at 23rd place in the top half of the field.
Oswego will return to the links on Saturday and Sunday as it plays in the first two rounds of the Empire 8 Conference Championship for the first time in program history. The opening rounds of the conference tournament, whose final rounds will take place in the spring, will partake at Kanon Valley Country Club.
