The Oswego State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the final day of action at the 2017 SUNYAC Indoor Championships hosted by Brockport on Saturday.
Ben Griffin followed the example set by the Oswego State men's distance-medley relay team on Friday at the Special Events Recreation Center. After the latter earned the conference title on Friday, Griffin collected an individual crown in the 800-meter run with a 1:55.89 finish. Later on, the Sterling, N.Y. native successfully partook in the 800-meter-mile double, taking eighth place in the 1600 meter-run with a 4:25.25.
After qualifying for the 200-meter final with a 23-flat split, Alec Cepeda returned to collect eighth in the event. The senior rounded the turn and sprinted down the home stretch to the tune of a 23.23 finish.
Elsewhere on the men's side, the 4-by-400 meter relay team earned fifth place by crossing the line in 3:26.09.
Tylea McCarthy-Walker paced the women's squad on the day. The freshman broke the standing school record in the long jump with a 5.31-meter leap (17' 5.25"). The previous top-distance was 5.29 meters, set by Jackie Cianfarano in 2002.
Also breaking a program record during the day's competition was Abigail Boyce. The senior took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 9.38 to once again break her own top-time. Alexie Zeigler followed her teammates performance, collecting seventh in the same event with a 9.69 second time.
Shaniece Gregory earned a personal best in the 400-meter dash. She crossed the line in 59.70 seconds.
Rounding out the action was the women's 4-by-quarter-mile relay. The team just missed the top spot in the SUNYAC, clinching second in 4:03.37.
