Lakers Notch 20th Win, 12th-Straight, with Comeback at Plattsburgh

The No. 7/9 Oswego State baseball team used a colossal comeback to complete the regular-season series sweep of Plattsburgh (3-20, 1-8), claiming a 16-6 victory on Sunday afternoon. Oswego earned its 20th win of the season with the triumph, posting a 20-3 mark overall and a 7-2 record in the SUNYAC. It is also the nationally-ranked Lakers' 12th-straight win.

A six-run third inning for the Cardinals put Oswego on the ropes, trailing 6-1 early. The Lakers accepted the challenge with open arms, plating three runs in each of the next two innings before exploding for nine in the top of the seventh frame.

Zach Kollar led all hitters on the day, going 4-for-5 at the dish with five RBI, two runs scored and a double. Myles Kutscher was close behind with a 3-for-4 outing, also smacking a double while crossing the plate a game-high four times.

For the second-straight contest, John Barnes crushed a triple, aiding his 2-for-5 day that also boasted three runs driven in and three runs scored. Joining Barnes in the two-hit club on Sunday were Brian Hamilton, Jordan Giller and Matt Capobianco. Rounding out those with extra-base hits were B. Hamilton, Giller, Robert Donnelly and Eric Hamilton, all coming on doubles. The remainder of the Lakers' RBI came from Capobianco (2), E. Hamilton (2), Donnelly (1), Giller (1) and Wes Randall (1).

On the mound, Oswego's Miles Kelly got the start and the win, improving to 4-1 on the year. In his five innings of work, Kelly was perfect in four, allowing no hits or runs in the first, second, fourth or fifth innings. The senior battled through a tough third frame, with five hits leading to six runs, only three of which were earned due to two Laker errors. In relief, Nathan Boughton, Andrew Morano and Brandon Schultzkie combined for the final four innings, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out four.

Oswego will return to the diamond at 3 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Brockport in the first game of a three-game weekend. That game will feature two of the conference's top squads, as the Lakers and Golden Eagles sit tied atop the SUNYAC standings at 7-2.
