The Oswego State men`s basketball team dropped to .500 (5-5) in SUNYAC play with an 81-73 loss at Geneseo on Tuesday night. Overall, the Lakers are now 11-6 while the Knights improve to 14-2 on the season and 8-1 in conference play.
Oswego and Geneseo traded leads over the first 14 minutes of the first half. The Lakers opened on a 5-0 run before the two teams battled back and forth with Oswego holding a 29-28 lead at 5:25. Geneseo took control of the game in the waning moments of the period, going on a 17-4 stretch to grab a 46-33 advantage at the break.
The Knights let its lead fluctuate between 10-and-18 points for most of the second half, until Elijah McLaurin nailed a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to make the final score an eight-point spread.
McLaurin was a bright spot on the evening, pacing the Lakers with 20 points, which also represents the sophomore's career-high. Also finishing with double digits for Oswego was Rashawn Powell, tallying 14 points. The junior led the team with seven rebounds.
Oswego had 11 players score in the contest with 10 also grabbing boards. Larry Rivers finished with five caroms, good for second-most on the squad, while McLaurin, Jamel Mosley and Daniel Ross all collecting four.
The men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column at 8 p.m. on Friday night at Buffalo State.
