Men`s Basketball Falls in Final Seconds

OS BasketballThe Oswego State men`s basketball team had a last second 3-pointer spoil its night as host Potsdam took a close 68-66 contest on Friday night. Oswego's loss drops its season mark to 14-8 and its conference record to 8-7 while the Bears improve to 4-17, 2-12.

Oswego led 66-63 with 10 seconds left but Potsdam was able to get a layup and draw a foul. The Bears could not complete the traditional 3-point play and was forced to foul. With six seconds left, Oswego headed to the line on the bonus, receiving a one-and-one opportunity. The Lakers missed the front end and Potsdam grabbed the defensive board, dribbled up the floor and sank a trey to beat the buzzer and steal the win.

The two squads played close throughout the night, entertaining 10 ties and five lead changes. Heading in the locker room at half, Oswego and Potsdam were tied at 35-35 after countering each other blows during the opening stanza. Neither team led by more than seven at any point in regulation.

Rashawn Powell led the Lakers on the night with a double-double, scoring 10 points with a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior Daniel Ross paced Oswego on offense, finishing with a team-best 13 points. Also scoring in double-figures for the Lakers was Mark Candelario (12) and Jamel Mosley (10).

On defense, Mosley chipps in two blocks while Ross and Keith Tyson each had three steals.

Oswego will return to the hardwood at 4 p.m. on Saturday when it plays an important road contest with Plattsburgh
