Oswego Men's Basketball Remains Unbeaten with Win Over Clarkson

OS Basketball

The Oswego State men's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 73-58 victory over host Clarkson University at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall on Tuesday night. Oswego, who led by as many as 20 during the contest, is 4-0 on the year while the Golden Knights drop to 1-4.

Brian Sortino made a pair of free-throws with just under eight minutes to play in the first half to give the Lakers a lead it would not lose the rest of the way. The Lakers took a four-point advantage into the locker rooms at halftime but extended its margin to 10 just 2:30 into the second stanza. From that point forward, Oswego held a double-figure spread until the sounding of the final horn.

Sortino paced the Lakers with 17 points, all coming in the first half, and was aided by Kyle Covley's 14 and a pair of 10-point efforts from Walter Sampson and Keith Tyson.

As a team, Oswego outrebounded the Golden Knights 30-23, with Sampson and Jamie Wolmering grabbing five a team-high five each. The Lakers also had more assists than turnovers, dishing out 12 helpers while losing possession just eight times. Sortino tied for a game-high five assists.

Oswego forced 12 Clarkson turnovers on the evening, with Sampson, Matt Crockett and Alex Rawa all collecting two steals.

After the Thanksgiving holiday, the Lakers will put its perfect record on the line at the University of Rochester Tournament. The first game for Oswego will come at 7 p.m. on Saturday when it faces Middlebury College.
