The Oswego State wrestling team went 1-1 in Sunday's Grapple in the Garden, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Oswego opened against NCAA Division I opponent Franklin & Marshall College, falling 34-12, before earning its first dual win of the year 31-13 over Muhlenberg College.
Daniel Smith had an impressive outing in "The World's Most Famous Arena," as the freshman picked up two wins on the day. It started with a pin over his DI counterpart in just 2:30, earning the victory in the 197-pound bout. He then outdid himself against the Mules, recording yet another fall, this time 15-seconds faster than the earlier performance.
In the later matchup, the Lakers won all but three weight classes. Sophomore Tyler Sliverthorn grabbed an 11-3 major decision at 157-pounds before 165-pounder Mark Milisci captured a nail-biting 7-6 decision. Troy Seymour, who has mostly appeared at 174 this season, bumped up a class but found a similar result. The sophomore registered a 5-1 decision over Muhlenberg's Jake Gordon to continue Oswego's dominance.
Heavyweight Kade Andrews collected the Lakers' final triumph of the event, downing his opponent 4-1.
Oswego will return to the mats at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday when it travels to Rochester, N.Y. to participate in the RIT Invitational.
