The Oswego State men`s track and field team posted a strong opening meet at the Rochester Alumni Invitational on Sunday.
Junior Matt McDorman kicked off his first outdoor season by topping the SUNYAC leaderboard this weekend with a 44.10 meter throw in the javelin.
Freshman Adam Crumb placed second in the long jump with a lifetime best of 6.56 meters (21' 6"), just edging out teammate Chris Bridgewater, who finished fourth in the event with a jump of 6.51. Bridgewater would come back less than an hour later to take home second place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.13.
On the track, the men's distance squad opened up the meet for the Lakers in the 10,000-meter run. Senior Damian Archie led the way with a SUNYAC qualifying performance of 32:59.85. Junior captain Nick Montesano joined Archie on the SUNYAC list, dropping a minute and seven seconds off his previous lifetime best to finish with a time of 33:09.58. Freshman Tyler Morris finished just under the SUNYAC standard with a time 33.59.02 in the first 10k of his career. Kyle Gilyard (senior) rounded out the performance list with a 34 second personal record in the event, running 34:17.41.
The team finished in 10th place out of 23 teams, gaining 42 points which was just seven back of fourth place and conference rival Geneseo.
Oswego will be back at it on Saturday when it travels back to Rochester for the Roc City Challenge, hosted by Nazareth College
