Volleyball Suffers a Pair of 3-1 Losses in Pennsylvania

The Oswego State volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-1 losses to open the Northwest Pennsylvania Challenge on Friday night.

Oswego opened with a set win over Wooster before the Fighting Scots stole three-straight games for the victory (25-14, 19-25, 13-25, 13-25). In the night cap, the Lakers fell behind two sets to the Lions of Penn State-Behrend, grabbed the third set but were unable to complete a comeback (19-25, 17-25, 25-18, 19-25). The losses drop Oswego to 2-4 on the year.

Against Wooster, the Lakers had three individuals with more than five kills: Alison Sullivan (8), Ariana Wright (7) and Lauren Fie (6). Julie Flohr carried nearly all of the setting duties, connecting for 24 of Oswego's 27 assists. Rina Qelaj and Shauna O'Flaherty garnered most of the passing in the contest, finishing with 15 and 13, respectively. Not far behind were Flohr with nine digs and Alison Berger with eight.

In the matchup with Behrend, Shauna O'Flaherty was able to notch 15 winners at a .270 clip, trailing only teammate Melissa Lussier (.333). Lussier had the second most kills for Oswego, tallying nine. Flohr again led the Lakers with 25 assists while Qelaj and Berger split passing evenly with 14 digs apiece. O'Flaherty was just two back of her teammates in the dig category with 12.

On defense, Sullivan turned in one block solo and three block assists while Laura Finn matched the junior's block assist output.

Oswego will continue with the Northwest Pennsylvania Challenge on Saturday, opening with Thiel College at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend at 1:15 p.m. against Allegheny College.
