The Fulton Noon Rotary Club honored Rotarian Sean Broderick with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship for his efforts in supporting the area’s youth and for his incredible record of service to the community.
President Brian Pulvino gave a short introduction and then Rotarian Jerry Seguin spoke about the history of the Rotary and founder Paul Harris. The club originated in Chicago and meetings rotated between area business owners—hence, the name Rotary.
According to the Rotary International website, Rotarians are eligible to become Paul Harris Fellows after cumulative giving or gifts made in their honor to the Rotary Foundation reach $1,000 or more. The award is about far more than simply monetary amount donated, however, and is meant to honor the spirit of Rotary founder Paul Harris.
Pulvino spoke about how welcoming Broderick was over two decades ago when Pulvino was new at the Fulton City School District, and how Broderick has continuously embodied the spirit of community that Rotary represents, and its aim of strengthening the connections between friends and neighbors through service.
Broderick still works in the Fulton City School District, now acting as the Coordinator for the Early College High School (ECHS) Program and promoting synergy between the Fulton City School District, Fulton City government, and Fulton Rotarians.
He is also one of the trio he likes to call the “dream team” behind Fulton Youth Basketball. That organization has been providing half-day sports-themed programming to Fulton youth Monday through Friday all summer long, with a week-long, full-day program called a “sports showcase” planned for the week of August 17-21. Broderick has been key to curating the programming, calling himself “the vision guy” who is one part of a larger team. An important part of his vision has been keeping all summer programming free, accessible, and inclusive to local kids. “For so many kids, this is their summer,” Broderick previously told iHeart Oswego. “We want to make sure it’s memorable and fun for every kid who wants to participate.”

Broderick was caught by surprise with the fellowship, saying in his acceptance speech, “I’m really surprised, proud, honored. I mean it when I say it: we have a lot to be proud of in Fulton. The Rotary Club is special to me… I don’t pay attention to the negative things on social media about Fulton: Theresa and I can choose to live anywhere. We CHOOSE to live here. We love Fulton.”
Fulton Noon Rotary recently awarded scholarships to seven graduating high school seniors, and in a testament to Broderick’s leadership, many of this year’s recipients had participated in the ECHS program. The program allows students to earn college credits while still in high school and gives Fulton students a strong headstart in college- and career-readiness—just another example of how Broderick is constantly building up the Fulton community and giving back to the next generation.
He invited the students in attendance at the award presentation to “continue to be a part of our community; good things are adult-led, and great things are student-led.”
