Write a commentStudents at Riley Elementary School recently celebrated the creation of the Riley Kid Garden, a new outdoor learning space where classroom lessons are taking root through authentic, hands-on experiences.
Faculty, staff and students worked together to establish the garden, planting a variety of vegetables that students first started growing in their classrooms.
“This is exciting because I get to plant the foods that we planted in our classrooms with our friends,” said third-grader Ivylynn K. “This has been a fun experience because I’ve never really planted things before.”
The Riley Kid Garden provides experiential learning opportunities that connect science, nutrition and environmental stewardship.
The garden's sign, created by Mark Lytle of Precision Sign Vinyl and Tees, reflects the school's values: “Where Riley students RISE each day with Respect, Integrity, Safety and Effort.”
The project encourages students to cultivate both healthy foods and lifelong learning skills while working together as a school community.
