In a time when so much of our national conversation feels divided, Oswego County has an opportunity, simple, joyful, and deeply American, to stand together in pride and shared purpose.
On Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Indivisible Oswego County invites neighbors from every corner of our community to gather along Bridge Street between West 1st and East 4th Street for a Flag Day Rally.
Flag Day has always been a celebration rooted in unity. Since June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States, Americans have looked to this symbol as a reminder of our collective story. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson formally recognized June 14 as National Flag Day, honoring the flag as a reflection of our shared ideals, sacrifices, and hopes.
This year’s Flag Day Rally is an invitation. A chance to show our love of country and its democratic principles. A chance to stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with people who share the same home, breathe the same lake air, and want the same future for our children.
Participants are encouraged to bring an American flag, large or small, new or well‑worn, and hold it proudly as we reaffirm the values expressed in the Pledge of Allegiance:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Those words belong to all of us. They remind us that liberty and justice are responsibilities we carry together.
In a county that has weathered economic shifts, celebrated local triumphs, and shown resilience time and again, Flag Day offers a moment to pause and remember what binds us. It is a chance to celebrate not only our nation, but the spirit of community that makes Oswego County strong.
Everyone is welcome… families, veterans, students, longtime residents, newcomers, and anyone who believes in the power of unity. Bring your flag, bring your pride, bring your hope for what we can build together. Let’s stand together… not because we all agree, but because we all belong.
