Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is hosting an outdoor mushroom workshop on Saturday, September 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at CNY Organic Farms in Central Square, NY.
This workshop will identify specialty mushrooms that make sense to grow on small acreage in an outdoor forest setting.
Joshua Vrooman, Agriculture Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, will review direct-to-consumer trends, showing that specialty farms are best positioned for local and regional sales. Connor Youngerman, Mushroom Specialist for Cornell Small Farms Program, will highlight specialty mushrooms that make the most sense to grow in an outdoor forest environment. He will also provide an overview of other key considerations when getting started. Afterwards, Tim Nicholson, co-owner of CNY Organic Farms, will provide a tour of his small farm operation, including how they got started, and what they have learned over many years. There will be plenty of time for questions.
This workshop is free to attend, but pre-registration is required. Please go to https://thatscooperativeextension.org/events/2026/09/12/outdoor-mushroom-workshop or scan the QR code to register.
