Hamiltons and Giller Power Lakers to Victory

OS Baseball

The Oswego State baseball team defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology Monday afternoon 16-6 on the road. With the win, the Lakers improve to 24-8 on the year. RIT moves to 19-9 overall.

After a scoreless first, Oswego was able to break open the scoring during the second inning. After John Rauseogrounded out, Kyle Liner was able to reach on an RIT error. He was then pushed to second after Zach Kollar was walked. Robert Donnelly would then double, scoring Liner and giving Oswego the lead. Dan Saccocio would follow up with a single that would advance the runners and score Kollar. The Lakers would tack on two more before the innings end as Brian Hamilton earned an RBI on a sacrifice bunt and Eric Hamilton would single in Saccocio.

Both teams would go scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Oswego tallied three more. Donelly singled to get to first, stole second and then advance to third on a wild pitch. Saccocio then got walked and stole second. With runners in scoring position, B. Hamilton earned his second and third RBI of the game as he doubled down the center. Later in that inning, Jordan Giller got his first hit and RBI of the game, singling in B. Hamilton.

The Tigers put up three runs over the next two frames, but the big bats of Oswego would once again come alive during the top of the sixth. Saccocio once again got on first with a single and moved over as he stole second. E. Hamilton then drove him in as he singled into right field. Hamilton took a page out of Saccocio's book and stole second, only to advance to third as Myles Kutcher hit a single into the outfield. Giller then knocked in E. Hamilton as he doubled. Eli Holton would earn the Lakers' final RBI of the inning as his sacrifice fly drove in Kutscher. After giving up three, RIT would score three of its own making the score 10-6 going into the seventh frame.

Oswego was held scoreless for a while but once again strung a bunch runs together, this time in the eighth. The inning began oddly, as B. Hamilton gained first after getting plunked. E. Hamilton would then reach on an error in the next at bat, followed by B. Hamilton who mimicked E. Hamilton and got to first after being hit by the pitch. With the bases loaded, Giller smashed a single into center, scoring the brothers Hamilton. Holton would advance everyone again, singling and scoring Kutscher. Then, Alex Brown, who entered the game for Kyle Liner, would get to first after being hit by a pitch as well. With bases juiced once again, Kollar was able to produce a sac fly giving Oswego its first out of the inning but, also scoring Giller. The final two runs of the inning came from B. Hamilton as the
Lakers batted through the order. He singled into center and scored A. Brown and Holton. Oswego would hold the lead, earning the 16-6 victory.

Leading the way for the Lakers was B. Hamilton, who went 3-for-4 from the plate, earning a team-high five RBI, plus two runs scored. He was followed closely by Jordan Giller who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored

Pitching duties for Oswego were split six ways, with Miles Kelly getting the nod. He would throw two innings, before getting replaced by Tim Cronin who also through two. Andy Stuart, Cody LaFlamme, Pat Brown andBrandon Schultzkie would close out the game in that order. Kelly earns the win, improving to 6-1 on the season.
