Andrew Hare (Burlington, Ontario), a senior on the men's ice hockey team, and
Brittany DalCais (Hewitt, N.J.), a sophomore on the women's indoor track and field team, have been named the Oswego State Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 24.
Hare posted 33 saves for his 18th win of the season against Buffalo State in the SUNYAC Semifinals. The senior goalie came up with big glove save seven minutes into the second period on a shot from Shane Avery during a breakaway that would have resulted in a short-handed Bengal goal tying the score. He allowed just two goals, propelling the Lakers to the SUNYAC Final with a 5-2 win over the Bengals.
DalCais came up just short of defending her conference pole vault title as she cleared a height of 10 feet, 10 inches (3.30m) in her first attempt at the SUNYAC Championships, but was unable to clear the next benchmark to finish in second place. She then teamed up with Kristen Harrigan (So., Buffalo, N.Y.), Marissa Pariseau (So., Somerset, Mass.) and Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) to capture second place in the 4x400 relay with a school record time of 4:05.24, which was 0.71 seconds faster than the mark the quartet posted earlier this year.
