Lakers Dominate in Relays in Wins Over Bengals

The Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Buffalo State at home on Saturday afternoon. With a 170-113 win, the men remain perfect with an 8-0 record, while the women improve to 6-2 with their 161-84 victory.

Both Laker teams were undefeated in relays, with the afternoon kicking off with the 200-yard medley relay. For the men, the team of JJ Alaniz, Austin Bull, Walker Snowden and Alexander Davie captured first place less than a second faster than Buffalo State (1:40.28). The women took both of the top two spots in the medley relay, with Kayla Merrill, Emily Ross, Riley Synan and Hannah Jensen finishing in first (1:57.73).

The 200-yard free relay ended the day for the teams, with the men again in a tight race. In the second to last event of the afternoon, Davie, Snowden, Ryan Kreuser, and Nicholas Weber beat out their Bengal opponents by less than a minute (1:29.34). Jensen, Kelsey Oliverio, Lok Chi Hon and Logan Turner followed up with a win of their own, finishing the relay with a time of 1:48.52.

In individual events, Daniel Rodriguez and Alaniz each took home three wins. Rodriguez finished over a minute faster than his competitors in the 1650-yard free (16:35.92), won a close race in the 200-yard fly (2:07.97), and came in first in the 500-yard free (4:52.31). Alaniz showed off his versatility, winning the 100-yard breast (1:01.38), 200-yard back (1:59.11) and 200-yard IM (2:00.09).

For the women, diving was a strong point once again. Miranda Frascatore, coming off of two first-place finishes against Cortland, finished first in both the 1-meter dive (with a score of 228.15) and the 3-meter dive (with a score of 220.10).

The Lakers return to the pool on Saturday when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to face Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
