Walter Sampson led Oswego State with 21 points as the Lakers routed the Potsdam Bears 83-55.
Potsdam started out strong taking a 17-10 lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest, but once Oswego got back in the game, they took the lead and never looked back, ending the first half on a 24-3 run. Brian Sortino paced the Lakers in scoring with 14 of his 15 points coming in the first half.
"We just went back to the basics and focused on our defense." Sampson said. "Coach does a great job of getting us scouting reports so we actually know what our guys are going to do every game."
Senior Rashawn Powell nearly totaled a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds for the Lakers.
"Every game is big." Said Powell, the lone senior on the team. "We try to take every game one at a time and not get ahead of ourselves."
This loss is Potsdam's tenth straight, bringing their record to 2-18, 1-13 in conference. They look to end their losing streak Saturday on the road against SUNY Cortland.
As for Oswego, they improve their record to a SUNYAC best 15-7, 11-4 in conference. They have an important game at home against rival and second place Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m. That will go a long way to determine the seeding in the SUNYAC tournament.
