The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team defeated Morrisville State, 18-7, in its home opener on Saturday afternoon. Oswego begins the season with a 1-0 record, while Morrisville falls to 0-1.
With the win, the Lakers improve their all-time record against the Mustangs to a perfect 8-0. The Lakers scored less than a minute into their game against Morrisville, and did not allow the Mustangs to take the lead for the entire game. Oswego’s 18 goals is the most it has scored in a game since its 21-10 win over Potsdam in the first round of the SUNYAC Championship on May 3, 2016.
Toni Laneve led the way for the Lakers, scoring a game-high five goals and dishing out three assists for a total of eight points. The junior’s eight points are a new career high.
Montana Garrett, Gemma O’Kane and Brigid Regin each notched a hat trick in the win, scoring three goals apiece. Riley Jaquin, Kamryn Sherman and Teresa Shattuck rounded out the scoring, each with a goal. Shattuck collected four assists in the win as well.
The Lakers dominated throughout the game in all facets. Oswego was successful in 14 of its 17 clear attempts, while Morrisville only succeeded in 18 of its 27 tries. The Lakers were in control throughout the game offensively, outshooting the Mustangs, 31-10.
Goalie Angela Ponto played 58:25 in the victory, making two saves and earning the win.
The Lakers face a quick turnaround as they return to the turf at 4 p.m. on Monday to host RIT.
