The Oswego State men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Special Events Recreation Center for Day 1 of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Several Lakers turned in impressive performances on the evening with many garnering lifetime bests. The men's distance-medley relay team won the conference title, earning the top spot in the event with a time of 10:31.04. Tim Olmsted, Darius Benton, Kevin Clifford and Nick LeClair teamed up to run the relay, which consists of a 400-meter, an 800-meter, a 1200-meter and a 1600-meter segment.
Valeria Kudinov blasted her way into the record books, collecting 2810 points in the pentathlon and smashing her own previous record of 2619 points. She placed fifth overall in the event, which consists of the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter run. Her top performance was in the hurdles as she placed first in her section with a time of 10.06 seconds.
Aside from this, Abigail Boyce and Alexie Zeigler continued their stellar seasons. Both athletes made it to the 60-meter hurdle finals, which will be held during Saturday's competition. Zeigler clocked a lifetime-best of 9.53, while Boyce crossed in 9.59.
In the field events, Tylea McCarthy-Walker earned a sixth-place finish in the triple jump after recording a personal-best leap of 10.87 meters.
Wrapping up the action for the men, Alec Cepeda advanced to the 200-meter final after capture second in his section in a split of 23-flat. Ben Griffin also advanced to a Saturday final, crossing the line in the 800-meter run in 1:56.63 and winning the second heat. It was the fastest time run during the day. Colin Greenseich came in seventh in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:30.65.
Oswego returns to action on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Brockport's SERC for day two of competition.
