The Oswego State women's lacrosse team opened its spring break trip with a 11-6 loss to Springfield College at Disney's Wide World of Sports on Sunday afternoon. With the defeat, the Lakers fall to 2-3 on the year while the Pride goes to 5-2.
Three Lakers finished with two-points apiece, as Emily Lange and Kelsey Henderson both tallied two goals, while Erannan Shattuck distributed assists on two of Oswego's scores. Lindsey Eggers and Gemma O'Kane each notched a goal for the squad while Briana Kimble had a helper on Henderson's second score in the contest.
The game was close throughout, with Oswego posting the first half's final two goals to be down just one at 4-3 heading into half time. In the first 15 minutes of the second stanza, each team recorded three goals, with Eggers' unassisted free-position goal made it a 7-6 Springfield lead with 15:14 remaining. Oswego was unable to cash in again, while the Pride finished the game with four unanswered goals to pull away for the win.
Angela Ponto stood tall in 60 minutes of work between the pipes for the Lakers, making 11 saves. The freshman also had a team-high three ground balls, while Nicole Granteed, Miranda Czechowski, Mackenzie Kjerstad and Esther Gabriel each collected two.
As a team, Oswego controlled more draws than Springfield (11-9), with Gabriel matching the Prides' total with nine. Lange and Maddie Troia won the Lakers' other two draws.
Oswego will take Monday to prepare for the University of New England, which it will face at 11 a.m. on Tuesday to close out its spring break stay in Orlando.
